Stelios Kyriacou

Chairman of EMECrid - the Research Innovation and Development Working Group of EMEC

Dr Kyriacou was born in Cyprus and completed his formal schooling in Greece. He received his BSc(Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and his MSc in Engineering Mechanics. Having gained a scholarship he pursued research in Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics, and was awarded his Doctorate degree in Engineering Mechanics.

For over 10 years Dr Kyriacou pursued an academic career in the School of Mechanical Engineering, Cranfield University that included teaching, research and technical consultancy. He was appointed as course director responsible for the delivery and management of post-graduate engineering programmes in the field of Rotating Machinery Design. He has authored and presented several publications in the field of mechanics and computational methods.

In 2000, he joined HamworthyKSE as executive engineering manager within the Marine and Offshore division. In 2003 he joined Hatlapa Marine Equipment as Engineering Director of the UK operation. In 2008, joined Hamworthy PLC in the role of Technical Director of Hamworthy Water Systems based in Poole, UK. Since March 2009 he has been appointed Managing Director of Hamworthy Ballast Water Management Systems and Managing Director of Hamworthy Greenship BV.

Dr Kyriacou maintains an active and keen interest on maritime technologies and regulatory affairs. He holds the post of Visiting Professor at the School of Engineering, Cranfield University. He is actively involved with National and European Committees and working groups on technology, research, development and innovation.
