Background
In its first 10 years of existence, the Marine Equipment Directive has been implemented by the EU Member States in order to ensure consistent and minimum levels of safety for equipment covered by the Directive, as well as to allow the free movement of goods bearing the wheelmark for EU flagged ships.
The main actors involved in the Marine Equipment Directive are:
