Current Position
After nearly 10 years of the implementation of Marine Equipment Directive, a number of issues have been raised by the stakeholders concerning the scope and operation of the Directive.
A full review of the directive is to be undertaken with the following time scales:
- Consultation with all stakeholders by 22nd May 2008
- Draft version of the 5 th Amendment by 28 th June 2008
- 5 TH Amendment draft review by middle of July 2008
- Final version of the 5 th Amendment July 31 st 2008
- Submit to European Commission 1 st August 2008
- Endorsed by Member states December 2008
The European Commission have requested EMSA to provide technical support to the commission in formulating the legislative proposals and assisting the commission during the legislative procedure whilst providing an impact study for the amendment of the MED.
EMSA will summarise the comments received during the consultation by end of May 2008 in order to identify the opinions of the EU Member States and other Stake holders in order to prepare a report that will contribute towards the first draft for the impact assessment of changes to the MED
